Dorel Travel Group opened as Brea Travel in 1960 – one of the first travel agencies in north Orange County. At the time the area consisted primarily of orange groves, though the opening of Disneyland a few miles to the south a few years before was changing the area fast!
Jet travel was in its infancy at the time and the modern cruise industry wouldn’t become well-known until The Love Boat television show premiered 17 years later. Most of the trips we sold back then were vacation packages to Hawaii and Europe on either propeller-driven aircraft or steamships. Because it took much longer to get to these destinations, folks often stayed for 2 weeks or longer. We also sold a large number of airplane tickets – the cost of a one-way ticket between Los Angeles and San Francisco back then was $12.
We quickly developed a reputation for outstanding personalized service from a staff of expert travel counselors – and the agency grew to become among the largest in the area.
Our business travel clientele grew to such a size that in 1992, we created a dedicated division specializing in servicing this type of travel and named it Dorel Travel Group.
